Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar's statement that he is unaware of graft probes against his subordinates shows that he has no control over the police force, said anti-crime group Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch).

Khalid had said on Monday that he is unaware that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating 60 police personnel for alleged involvement in corruption and money laundering, and will be making inquiries on the matter.

"Such statements from the IGP alone is more than enough to prove that he has no control over his force…," said MyWatch chairperson R Sri Sanjeevan ( left ) in a statement yesterday.

He claimed that MyWatch had exposed police personnel involved in illegal activities before, including a video confession of a former drug pusher who supposedly paid off police personnel to protect his business.

However, he said Khalid only paid lip service that he would act on MyWatch's information, and took no further action.

"MyWatch has all the information and strong reasons to believe that we can expose a group of currently serving and former top cops who are involved in illegal football betting and money laundering provided we be recognised by the government and empowered to work with MACC," he said.

Sanjeevan also claims that Khalid's hometown in Mantin is a “huge drug peddling hub”, while the nearby city of Seremban has over 100 illegal gambling dens.

"Khalid can't even keep his home and his home state safe, therefore we don't have the confidence in him that he'll keep the nation safe…

"MyWatch has been continuously keeping track of all these activities but never once the IGP has shown his interest or seriousness to combat this and that makes us wonder why?" he said.
