Najib is too soft, says Daim Zainuddin

Swipenter: Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, I do not agree with your opinion that PM Najib Razak is “too soft”.

In my opinion, Najib is too compromised with all the scandals he has accumulated throughout his political career.

He is walking on egg shells. The moment he does something to the dislike of the kingmakers and Malay ultras in Umno Baru, he would be brought to his knees. His political survival largely depends on them.

As a PM, even if he is biased towards his own community, how can he let the ultras and extremists among them flirt dangerously with impunity, issue threats of violence and bloodshed onto others?

This is unthinkable in any civilised country but it is happening frequently in Bolehland. Any leader worth his salt would have stamped out this kind of incitement of hatred without hesitation.

These extremist elements give lip service to national harmony and unity. Their motive is to corner everything, be it political power, money, business, etc, for themselves.

FellowMalaysian: Daim has retired and disappeared from the scene 20 years ago. Why do newsmen and stock punters still treat him like a clairvoyant soothsayer hoping to uncover a pot of gold from him?

Some of us may consider his prediction on the run-up to 2008 general election that BN would lose five states as a good omen coming true.

But like former PM Dr Mahathir Mahathir, Daim has little respect and even less confidence in Najib and the way the country is being run. So has he said anything good this time around?

Anticommunalist: First, former deputy minister P Waythamoorthy said Najib is weak. And hardly any Umno cabinet ministers came to his defence.

Now Daim also says he is weak. So be prepared for Najib to step down sooner than later.

Single Malt: Change is the law of the universe. For good or bad, we must have change. Whether good or bad, we have to back Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

From the way these Umno Baruputeras are throwing scorn at Anwar shows that they are scared of him - afraid that they will be exposed.

Just image how much Anwar has gone through (Sodomy I and II) and yet he remains nonchalant and strong - that’s a hallmark of a great leader.

He may not have been perfect in the past when he was deputy PM. But he has learned a lot since and has become wiser for the better. Therefore we are duty bound to give him a chance.

We can kick him out if he fails.

Hplooi: When Daim was finance minister, he helped himself to the nation's wealth. His (one time and ostensible) falling out with Dr M was due to disagreement on the commandeering of the nation's wealth.

Yes, the nation's resources was treated like personal and party (in this order) property.

Mushiro: It is a given that Najib is soft - this is not a new discovery. But coming from Daim, it is an indication of the war between the Mahathir and Najib factions.

But who are Daim's choices within Umno of strong, smart and good leaders?

Ipohcrite: Black magic only works on those who buy it, never on those intended as victims. Just imagine, if black magic really works, its practitioners would be rich beyond their dreams instead of peddling their con to those racist and gullible fools from you-know-which political party.

Mosquitobrain: Why one has to go to that distance? They instigate, create hate, threaten, curse and now using black magic on others. This is definitely not the work of a Muslim.

What black magic the bomohs could come up with and how powerful they were believed to be (keeping Taib in power for 33 years), nothing happened to Salleh, me or members of our team. Nothing!

I’m Catholic and while I think there are evil spirits as well as good spirits, it is one’s belief, faith plus a spirited conscience that will thwart such evils.

So to my friends in Malaysiakini , I say this to you all again - be not afraid of evil if your conscience is clear. A needle, duck, rice or whatever cannot be far worse than the three “witches” alive and kicking right before us and ready to cast their spells.

Stay true, stay focused and soldier on.
