Quick action urged on bird droppings woe at airport

Kalabakan member of Parliament Abdul Ghapur Salleh has urged the Tawau Airport management to overcome immediately the problem of bird droppings at the airport following many public complaints on the matter.
He said the bird droppings had caused problems to the airport users, besides dirtying the place and affecting the image of the only airport in Tawau.
"I myself had been a 'victim' of the bird droppings a number of times while at the airport. We don't want our visitors, including the many tourists heading to Semporna and tourist spots like Sipadan Island, to see this airport as a dirty place.
"So, I hope the airport management will solve this problem soon," he said when met at the airport yesterday before leaving for the federal capital.
Abdul Ghafur suggested that the management put up ceilings at the airport to solve the bird feces problem caused by the burung ciak or tree sparrows.
"I will raise this matter with those concerned so that this problem will not prolong so as to protect the airport and Tawau's image," he said.
Meanwhile, the airport management, when contacted, said it would act on the problem.
"Actually, the concept used at the airport is the 'airport in a garden' concept, and we are aware of the birds' presence.
"We will study the concept used by a number of places like one of the mosques in Putrajaya which has managed to overcome the problem," said a spokesperson.
