Court fixes March 6, 7 to hear Sodomy II appeal
The Court of Appeal has today fixed March 6 and 7 as hearing dates of the appeal proper in Anwar Ibrahim's Sodomy II case.
The Court of Appeal has today fixed March 6 and 7 as hearing dates of the appeal proper in Anwar Ibrahim's Sodomy II case.
The matter came up for case management before Court of Appeal judge Aziah Ali, who had scheduled the hearing dates.
This is despite counsel Karpal Singh insisting that he was tied up on those dates.
“The Court of Appeal seems to be in a rush wanting to go on with those dates on Thursday and Friday,” Karpal, who is representing the opposition leader, said.
Anwar had also filed a
third application
earlier this week to remove Muhammad Shafee Abdullah (

) from leading the prosecution team on the grounds that the senior lawyer was fined RM5,000 by the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board for alleged misconduct.
Besides that, there is also a conflict of interest as Shafee had previously headed the Suhakam panel in finding Supt Jude Blacious Pereira as not being a credible witness.
The Court of Appeal has fixed the hearing of this application for Monday.
Anwar's appeal to recall Pereira to testify at the Court of Appeal will be heard at the Federal Court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Kajang nomination day is notably fixed for March 11, where Anwar is slated to contest against BN's Chew Mei Fun, former minister in the Prime Minister's Department ,Zaid Ibrahim and possibly several other independent hopefuls.
Anwar was acquitted on Jan 9, 2012, of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at the Desa Damansara condominium in 2008.
He was charged when he was readying himself to vie for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, after his wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail vacated the seat.
