PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has declared his full support for the water deal inked between the Selangor and federal governments.

Anwar denied that he was slighted for not being made privy to the contents of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) before it was signed.

“I fully support it. I was involved (in the water deal process), it was just when people asked about the MOU, I said I have not looked at it.

“I am not Umno... I want to see everything first,” Anwar told a ceramah in Taman Saga Emas, Kajang, last night.

Under the deal, the federal government will invoke its powers to allow Selangor to take over the state’s water services from private concessionaires.

In exchange, Selangor will give its consent for the federal government’s Langat 2 water treatment plant project.

The MOU was signed last Tuesday between Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili and Khalid in the presence of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had described it as “unusual” that Anwar was not privy to the MOU’s content despite being Selangor economic adviser.

Anwar, who only returned from Japan yesterday, denied he was kept in the dark over the deal.

“Khalid regularly sends his officers to explain and update me on this issue.

“The attempts to make it look like we (Khalid and I) are quarrelling are only fabrications,” Anwar added.
