Ongoing water rationing efforts in Selangor can lead to profiteering by those selling drinking water, warned MCA vice-president Chua Tee Yong.
 
In a press release today, Chua said the authorities should ensure that traders do not exploit the current situation for profit.
 
Chua ( left ) said that clean water is a basic human right and thus the authorities should monitor for profiteering activities to ensure that the price of drinking water stays within an acceptable range.
 
"If the situation gets out of hand, the authorities should consider making drinking water as a temporary controlled price item by imposing a ceiling price to prevent price hike," he said.
 
The Selangor government has ordered a water rationing exercise due to the current dry spell.
