Islamic NGO Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) has submitted a 200-page report to the Foreign Affairs Ministry against the Coalition of Malaysian NGOs (Comango).

Isma vice-president Aminuddin Yahaya ( left ) said the report, handed over to deputy minister Hamzah Zainudin today, also features the signatures of 740 Malaysians who have rejected the coalition’s claims made to the United Nations (UN) last October.

Comango came under fire for its report to the UN's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on human rights violations in Malaysia.

Several Islamic groups, including Isma, have also accused Comango of trying to undermine Islam and promote secularism in the country.

“The submission (of the report to the ministry) is to pressure the government to reject any claims by Comango that contradict Islam and the federal constitution.

“Isma, representing Malaysians, urges the government to take stern action against Comango without fearing any pressure, especially from the UN and other nations,” Animuddin said in a statement today.

He said the government must show a “serious and firm stance” in hindering any attempts to challenge the position of Islam and Malays in the country, be it at a domestic or international level.
