The Pahang government does not intend to implement water rationing in the state as there is still adequate supply despite the drought faced by the whole country currently.

Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob, however, said if the drought persisted in the next two to three weeks, water supply in the state might be disrupted.

“At the moment, water supply to all parts of the state is adequate except for several areas in Kuantan which experienced supply disruption since last week.

“In order to overcome the problem, the State Secretariat has been directed to open up the gates at the Chereh Dam in Panching to supply water to the area,” he said.

He disclosed this to reporters after a function at the Kompleks Yayasan Pahang in Kuantan today.

Meanwhile, commenting on the decision of the Selangor state government which had agreed to proceed with the construction of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (Langat 2), Adnan said the state government welcomed the decision.

“This will facilitate the process of channelling water from the Sungai Semantan to Selangor and at the same time resolve the water crisis faced by the state,” he said.
