Guan Eng: I am not upset with bridge name

FellowMalaysian: The Star reported today that Lim Guan Eng (LGE) supported the choice made by the federal government in naming the new bridge after the Agong.

If LGE is upset with the naming, he would not have supported it. Utusan Malaysia deserves another severe reprimand.

Ferdtan: How fortunate for LGE that Utusan did not give the ‘real’ reason why LGE was not happy with the given name for the bridge. They inadvertently forgot to mention that LGE wants to name the bridge after some Christian saints?

They held back such damaging exposure as they do not want to finish him off completely. They still want him around. They still love that Chinese fellow for giving them so much fun to kick him around at will.

Otherwise their newspapers cannot sell as many of their readers are from Umno. Well it is a lovely story, isn’t it?

Abasir: The longest bridge in Southeast Asia with the longest name for any bridge anywhere. Good for the country's Book of Records and good for Penang.

In any case, whether it is named after the sultan or not is not important as people may have their own names to refer to such monuments and landmarks.

Whatif: What is there to be upset about naming the bridge? If the bridge is built with federal funds, let the federal government name it. However, it would be polite to consult the state government and its people regarding naming it. No issue here.

Relevancy: It looks like Utusan were the ones upset and indirectly pointing fingers at the Penang state government and Lim Guan Eng.

Their end is to get extremists and ignorant Utusan readers to incite more hatred and portray that Malays are under siege yet again by Pakatan Rakyat and non-Malays.

The question will be, what end is being achieved? Till the country is listed as a Muslim extremist country and enemy of the world?

Bluemountains: Guan Eng has to be extremely careful in whatever he says. His enemies is probably trying its utmost to create a case for sedition for which he can be charged and found guilty in order to disqualify him from the post of CM.

He must never allow himself to fall into their trap.

Hearty Malaysian: Most likely for practical purposes, many shall call it the Penang Second Bridge in the long run.

The royalties do not need further big infrastructure to be named after them, any misspelling of their names in our daily communication are risking lack of respect for their Majesties. The federal government has to be adapt to the new world instead.

Franco: The name should be PX2 - Penang Crossing (X) number 2 (2nd). Let it be named whatever but this should be what it should be commonly known. Just my two sen.

Lionking: 1Malaysia Bridge would be good.

Malaysian 1st: As time goes by, people will call it the 'New Bridge', and the other one as 'Old Bridge'. Later this New Bridge will become Old Bridge when a third one comes by.

For example, Klang has three bridges. The 'new bridge' , the old bridge and 'old, old bridge'. But before the old, old bridge, there was a wooden 'hanging' bridge.

Son of PJ: Ha, ha, ha.... very practical suggestions from Malaysiakini readers. I'll go for something fancy like 'Snake on the Water" (the bridge reminds me of a very old song).

Terjah: The bridge should be named as Jambatan P Ramlee, the entertainer who made his name as a true Malaysian artiste, locally as well as at the international level.

He is the greatest icon that Malaysia has ever produced. His works are a favourite for all Malaysians - Malay, Indian and Chinese - until today.

Even the new generation, who live much later following his death, like him very much. But what to do, the decision is already made.

Anonymous_1390562550: I remember the debacle of the then-education minister Abdul Rahman Taib was found guilty in court and the embarrassment caused by a school named earlier after him in Kuantan.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he became PM later said of this, that the government has made a decision that no building or any structure will be named after any politician in his lifetime. This however did not apply to royalty.

Now you all know why the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the 1st Penang Bridge have still not been named.

SRMan: Oh yes, the Penang CM is upset that the bridge was not named Lim Guan Eng or Lim Kit Siang Bridge. But then he should be happy with that, otherwise there would be many slaughtered chickens on the Penang second bridge.
