MCA today urged Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim not to hide the identities of PKR leaders who allegedly attempted to influence the state’s water restructuring deal with the federal government.

Selangor Wanita MCA chief Ong Chong Swen ( right ) said that since the acquisition was being done using public funds, the issue was no longer a “PKR internal affair” and thus the names involved must be made public.

She was referring Khalid’s reported claim last week that some PKR leaders had attempted to influence the deal by asking him to raise the valuation of the four state water concessionaires, but did not name the said individuals.

“Under normal circumstances, any acquisition of company by the state government should have been done at the lowest possible price; the motive is indeed questionable for the leader or leaders to try persuading Khalid to take over water works at a higher price,” she said in a statement today.

“Was Khalid's decision to sign the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the federal government to consolidate his menteri besar position in the state or to stop others from eyeing his position and the state assets?”

She said that Khalid should not back down due to pressure put on him by his own party and should instead expose the “leaders” who had tried to persuade him over the deal.

However, PKR's Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen ( left ) claimed that during a weekend briefing to party leaders, Khalid had denied making such remarks during an interview with The Star .

Khalid, according to Wong Chen, had said that he was "misquoted" by the English daily pertaining to the claim.

However, to date, Khalid himself has not openly denied making those remarks.

Previously, the questions regarding the price of the water restructuring deal was speculated as one of the main reasons behind the "Kajang Move".
