Singapore experienced its driest period since 1869 as the prolonged dry weather hits the country since mid-January, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.     

The Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA) said that in February, seven days of short showers were recorded between Feb 7 and 19 mainly in the western parts of the country.    

Total water across 64 rainfall stations was below the long-term average of 161mm in that month.

About half of the stations mostly in the southern and eastern areas recorded total monthly rainfall of below 10mm.    

Besides being the driest month, February was the windiest month in the last 30 years, with an average daily wind speed of 13.3kph.

Prolonged dry conditions have set a new record for the lowest average daily relative humidity of 74.5 percent.

NEA forecast the situation will continue in Singapore in the first half of March.
