A man said to be a relative of a deputy minister is reported to have fallen off the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge yesterday.

Barat Daya District police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin said the 26-year-old man was reported to have fallen from the bridge, which was just opened on March 1, at Km13.9 (island-bound) before he was rescued by fishermen passing below at 2.40pm.

“The man was reported floating at sea where the depth was more than 500 metres. Subsequently he was brought to the Marine Operations Force in Batu Uban by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency,” he said in a statement in George Town yesterday.

The man, who is a student at a college in Kuala Lumpur, was still single and was being treated at the Penang Hospital with his condition reported stable, he added.
