Gerakan Youth deputy chief Andy Yong today criticised the Home Ministry’s decision to ban the Ultraman comic book because it contained the word ‘Allah’ as “unjustified”.

Yong warned that such a decision will “again” give a negative perception towards certain quarters of society as to how the ministry, led by Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, conducts its affair.

“It is apparent that most if not all Malaysians know about this action or cartoon character, it is unjustifiable to consider it as undermining public order or an insult to Muslims when the word ‘Allah’ is used.  Most people will say such an interpretation is ridiculous,” Yong said in a statement today.

He said that the minister should not have acted just based on a complaint, but should have investigated the matter thoroughly before taking action.

The book, titled ‘Ultraman the Ultra Power’ was banned by the ministry for “undermining public order”.

It was believed that the book referred to Ultraman as “Allah or all the Elders of all Ultra heroes”.
