Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has denied a news report that he had told the Selangor sultan and the state executive council that he is not budging as MB.

He told Free Malaysia Today that portal The Malaysian Insider was "spinning (his) words".

He was also quoted as saying that he had indeed had an audience with the sultan and it was decided he will consult the sultan and the exco if he makes any decisions about his post.

“Whatever it is, I will discuss with the sultan and exco,” he said. “I do it in a transparent manner. The public is not privy to this discussion.”

The Malaysian Insider reported that Khalid said that he has met with the Selangor sultan to inform the monarch that he will not leave his post as menteri besar.

The portal reported that he has also informed the state executive council (exco) that he is not budging from the post.

“I have informed the Selangor sultan and exco of my decision,” Khalid was quoted by The Malaysian Insider as saying at a press conference in Kajang today.

This follows speculation that Khalid had refused to sign an agreement to say that he will step aside as menteri besar when asked to by PKR.

Khalid, who last week announced that he will challenge Azmin Ali for the party deputy president spot, had earlier denied that such an agreement exists.

The March 23 Kajang by-election was triggered by PKR to pave the way for PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to enter the state assembly.

It is also widely seen as a way for Anwar to take over from Khalid. However, both of them have insisted that they will only comment on the matter after the Kajang by-election.
