Politicians from Pakatan Rakyat should not treat journalists as enemies even if they work for the mainstream media as they are merely doing their jobs, journalists group Gerakan Media Marah (Geramm) said today.

Its representative Radzi Razak said this while delivering a speech at the Pakatan Rakyat convention in Shah Alam today.

"I have seen mainstream journalists who admire Pakatan leaders because they treat them well.

"But I have also seen them cry because they are being treated like enemies," Radzi said to the Pakatan delegates.

He stressed that if politicians are not happy with the certain questions posed by the media, they could choose not to answer the question, and not ban the media instead.

"We don't wish to make enemies with any political parties, that is why we accepted the invite to speak here," Radzi, who is a journalist with the Malaysiakini Bahasa Malaysia desk, said.

He urged Pakatan to take note and monitor media freedom in the states which they rule.

"Geramm will make demands if anything happens in Pakatan states that affects media freedom," he said.
