MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun has come to the defence of DAP's Teresa Kok over the recent "egg attack" on the Seputeh MP.

"The stranger who handed Teresa Kok a rotten egg on the pretext of shaking her hands after a ceramah at Permatang Pauh should be condemned for such cowardice.

"This is clearly a case of subtle violence against women," Chew said in a statement today.

Kok on Tuesday had an egg broken in her hand by a stranger after a ceramah at which she explained her "Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014" video.

The satire video has been a subject of controversy after right wing groups accused Kok of insulting the prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor and offered a RM1,200 bounty to have her slapped.

Chew, who is the BN's candidate for the March 23 Kajang state by-election, said uncivilised acts of intimidating others was damaging the harmony of the nation.

"Acts of political violence have tended to grow more serious. It is worrisome that there are segments of society whose political development is immature.

"Such extremist behaviour, be it by supporters of the ruling coalition or the opposition, is unacceptable," she said.

Chew called for a more matured and healthy political culture to be practised in the country.
