Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had warmed the Permatang Pauh seat for her husband Anwar Ibrahim once and she can very well do it again in Kajang, said Federal Territories MCA.
 
In a press release today, Federal Territories MCA publicity chief Lau Chin Kok said Anwar might win his appeal against his sodomy conviction at the Federal Court, prompting yet another by-election.
 
Lau said it was clear that Wan Azizah is not keen in politics, based on her track record, and the public should not believe PKR's claim that she is the party's "best candidate" for Kajang.
 
"Is PKR's reasoning to field Wan Azizah simply to cover up the fact that they have no other suitable candidate? Or is it to hide something more sinister?" asked Lau.
 
Wan Azizah won the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat three times in 1999, 2004 and 2008. However, she resigned in Aug 28, 2008 to make way for Anwar.
 
Anwar was the Permatang Pauh MP from 1982 to 1999, until he was convicted for sodomy and abuse of power. The sodomy conviction was eventually overturned by the Federal Court in 2003, but conviction for abuse of power was not.
 
Earlier this year, PKR engineered what it dubs as the "Kajang move", which saw the resignation of state assemblyperson Lee Chin Cheh to make way for Anwar. 
 
However, Anwar was convicted for another sodomy charge before nomination day, thus disqualifying him from the contest. Following this, PKR decided to field Wan Azizah instead.
