Media bullying DCA chief on MH370, says Shahidan

Anonymous#007: How convenient for Umno/BN government to deflect attention from the issue at hand, which is how the Umno government has turned this tragedy into a circus.

It is Day 5 since Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 went missing and the people in charge are still giving the international search and rescue (SAR) teams the run-around, with unreliable information.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim, this is not bullying - this is exactly what people in these 'high-ranking' and 'high-paying' posts are there for - to handle crisis such as the missing flight MH370.

It is only in times of crisis that you can identify who is competent and who is not, who are the true leaders and who are not.

Bamboo: The mediocrity and incompetence at the highest level in the shape of Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) chief Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, MAS chief executive Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, the inspector-general of police (IGP) and Army chief were exposed for the whole world to see.

When they can't answer the probing questions of the international media, it's called 'bullying' .

All they are good at is putting a spin to everything. The international media is not as ignorant as the kampung folk in Malaysia. The authorities better buck up and tell the whole truth to the world.

Mistake: What a joke. If a journalist asks questions that are nonsensical, you should then give a sensible answer. It is easier to give a sensible answer to a question which may sound like nonsense to the receiver. This now is what we call ego.

DarthVader: Bullying? Are you serious? They are international reporters. They ask questions on behalf of the people who are wanting updates and yet you clowns don't know anything at all. Which questions of the reporters are bullying to the DCA? The questions were straight forward.

What questions are the DCA expecting? An ‘over a teh tarik session’ sort of questions? You all have been accustomed to not answering questions directly. This is the effect.

When people ask one question, you all like to give a non-related answer. What do you expect BBC, CNN, and other international news organisations to report?

SenyumUnta: Grow up Shahidan! You can't dictate what the international media can and cannot ask during a press conference. Maybe you can with the local media, because you can charge or 'persecute' them.

Why not send some 'butt dancers' to the media offices to do their stuff? Malay rights NGO Perkasa should also join in, because these international media are insulting and ridiculing a Malay Umno government.

YUNoAnon: Stop trying to play the victim. Azharuddin is not the target of bullying. As a matter of fact, the government has become the target here. Why? For giving out inaccurate information. Not only inaccurate, but contradictory information.

This tells the world that you do not have a grip on this case, you have no idea what is going on and you do not know how to move forward with it. In short, you are completely clueless. And when the lives of people's families are at stake, every second counts.

True_Malaysian: Malaysia has failed in many assessments. Shahidan, you don't have any capacity to comment in this matter. Suffice to say your knowledge in this matter is below average. You and Malaysia will face the international scrutiny and criticism. It is best to keep silent and let the experts thrash it out.

Podeh: The House should debate on improving our standard operating procedures (SOPs) in every government department, making sure that as long as we follow these beloved SOPs, we will never be in the line of fire when something goes wrong. So far our SOPs are indisputably the best in the world but you know, everything has room for improvement.

Anonymous_3e21: With Dewan Rakyat speaker like this, more disasters are coming our way. If Parliament cannot discuss this matter, which is the most important issue concerning Malaysia, then what can the house discuss?

Relevancy: A minute of silence does not bring about the answers to what the people of the world are looking for, debates do. Remaining silent also shows the lack of coordinated information being shared. As such, flip-flopping, accusations and rumours will fester further. No united Malaysian voice is heard.

Anonymous_3e06: This is what Umno has taught the local media. You ask wrong questions, you will be thrown out. Now you cannot handle the international media. Shame on Malaysia.

EmEmKay: Yesterday, when opposition members boycotted Parliament, BN members said the people whom they are representing will lose out. When people request our elected representatives to bring up motions for debate, the speaker shoots them down. This kind of hypocrisy by the ruling party must end.

Corgito Ergo Sum: The failure in the entire fabric of governance is now showing. From the lack of communication skills to the ability to handle a catastrophic crises exposes the government's misguided and maligned affirmative action. Even Vietnam is scaling down its search and rescue work because of the lack of transparency and truth.

Spinnot: You can "shoot down" parliamentary debate on the missing MH370 in Malaysia when the whole world is talking about this tragedy.

Rupert16: Shahidan, the way you and the government are handling the crisis and the media is disastrous, to say the least. Don't blame others for asking “nonsense” questions when you guys continue to give stupid, useless and contradictory statements.

GOMBAK: Let admit it, this is an international issue where there is the possible loss of lives of not only Malaysian passengers, but many other foreign nationals. You people have treated the local journalist badly and always take confrontational viewpoints to all questions asked on local issues.  

But now, when you have to face an issue that is global in nature, it is natural you go back to the same tactic and take all questions asked as nonsense .

This Shahidan is again causing more damage to the already poor handling of the issue. Just shut your mouth and do a service to all Malaysians.

Mikey!: This is a great national tragedy. It may have been on the DCA’s director-general 's job scope to handle such things but it is really beyond anyone's expectations how to handle such situations when it stares you right at your face.

Other airlines have also been through similar tragedies such as this and were completely clueless on the whereabouts of the wreck. It is time to put political differences aside and come together as a nation.

Even this DG needs our support in times like these. His salary, position, etc, are not worth attacking and will do no good to the identification of the wreck and to the family members who are probably reading our comments too. Let’s not go there .

Kubang: Just because the government commands the obeisance of the local pliant, obedient and unquestioning media does not mean that the international media has to play by the same rules.

Fourtan: We owe it to the families of those onboard MH370 to get to the bottom of this. All aspects must be discussed in Parliament. Let no stone be unturned. We owe it to them and ourselves. I just can't begin to imagine the anguish of those families. Come on, Malaysians, wake up. Please.
