The government is rushing the completion of the KLIA 2 airport in order to "save face" by insisting to open the airport for operations on May 2, just over a month from now, a DAP MP said today.

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said during a press conference at the Parliament lobby that the airport authorities are conducting Operational Readiness and Transfer (ORAT) on the airport even when piping works are yet to be completed.

"Normally, ORAT will be done for nine months after the airport receives certificate of completion. But now, they are yet to receive a certificate of completion," he said.

Pua said that the ORAT for KLIA2 has already been shortened to only three months, and it is being done concurrently with piping works and repairs.

Pua, who is also a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), said that the PAC would visit KLIA2 later today.

PAC is currently investigating the KLIA2 construction delay.
