PARLIAMENT Proton Holdings Sdn Bhd will produce its hybrid model by year-end, said Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Hamim Samuri.
PARLIAMENT Proton Holdings Sdn Bhd will produce its hybrid model by year-end, said Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Hamim Samuri.
He, however, said the status on the production and sales would be announced later.
“The marketing status (price) and quantum of units have not been made known to us but Proton has assured us that the car would be produced by year’s end,” said Hamim at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Hamim said this in a reply to a supplementary question by Azmin Ali (PKR-Gombak), who wanted to know the development of the car.
The deputy minister said Proton has developed the car’s prototype.
“The success is in line with the government’s aim to make the country a production and marketing hub with a target to produce some six million hybrid and electric cars,” he said.
On electric cars, Hamim said planning was still under way and it was slated to be produced by the end of next year.
Prior to this, it was reported that Proton executive chairperson Mohd Khamil Jamil had said the national carmaker was looking at innovative methods in producing and marketing those models.
