IGP: Don't ask me about stolen passports

Bad Head: This is a very irresponsible statement from Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar. In the first place, he acts as a hero conducting a press conference and shows the photo of the two Iranians to the press.

When his statement contradicts information from Interpol, he pushes the responsibility away. Why do people ask you? Because you held the press conference in the first place.

Anonymous_1391570393: Immigration Department director-general Aloyah Mamat’s claim now is being contradicted. The passports the two Iranians used to leave Malaysia must be checked against the passports they used previously when entering Malaysia. Non-matching of the two could have raised suspicion, had the officers on duty been fully alert.

                  

If the Interpol's claim is true, then failure could have occurred and someone must be called to take responsibility. In this case, it is extremely important for the authorities to prove that Interpol's claim is without basis at all

And Khalid, you're the head of the police force. Is this how you deal with a case? Pay me your salary and I can do your effort 10 times better than say "why ask me?". Clueless IGP.

I hope you have been quoted on international media. This kind of response needs to be shared around the world. Let the police force of other countries see your performance.

We aspire to be a developed nation in six years time but with this kind of mentality, you're better off still living in the kampung. The world will not recognise you as developed. Definitely not with this attitude.

Myop101: I think the IGP has to concur that there are lapses in the SOP concerning what to do with people found in possession of stolen passports. In this instance, police should proactively work together with the Immigration to get information and updates from the Interpol on the stolen passports and such.

CiViC: I'm reading one piece of news from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) saying that detecting fake passports is the job for the police , and on another where the IGP of Malaysia is telling people not to ask him about passports, and pushes it to immigration and Interpol.

Onyourtoes: Possessing and using fake passports is a crime; buying and selling fake passports in bulk is a syndicate or organised crime; using fake passports to possibly commit terrorist act is a bigger crime.

How is it possible that crimes are not under the police now? It seems to me there are only two crimes in Malaysia that the Malaysian police are good at – the violation of Anwar’s former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s posterior and Karpal’s legal statement on the constitution.

Khalid, it is time you accept reality. You can bully Malaysians and behave like a big time tyrant so long as you are dealing with Malaysians. I challenge you to hold another international press conference now and see what will happen.

It is obvious, even to the nincompoops, that incompetency and mediocrity are at every level of our public administration. I am sad it needs a tragic incident like this to expose the glaring baloney now besetting the whole country.

Whatsup: He's smarter now, learning from his boss - better to keep quiet than open his mouth - and this shows his stupidity and incompetency. Can't imagine a top cop giving such reply though. As for the Immigration DG, please don't hide behind standard operating procedures (SOP).

That's why you have officers there to make sure the SOP is carried out with human discretion. Otherwise, you would even let in a monkey in a business suit if the passport photo of the monkey matches the face. This tragic event has revealed the lack of incompetency in so many departments. How sad.

True_Malaysian: Corruption, an incompetent civil service, poor leadership, cronyism, racism and wanting to hold on to power by manipulating the system are all reasons contributing to the eventual destruction of our country.

Tmf: Please do not bring race and religion into this tragedy. There are competent people in every race and there are incompetent people in every race too. Question the structure and system of management or even governance but please do not question the integrity and competence of any race.

ACR: Interpol claims that only 20 countries regularly cross check passengers' passports against its database which lists some 40 million lost passports. An immigration officer under the Immigration Act has the authority and power of a police officer to enforce provisions of the Act in relation to arrest, detention or removal. It is high time our Immigration, as a matter of SOP, checks all departing and arriving persons at all ports of the country.

AkuDahUbah: Immigration controls screwed up. Database is available and all it takes is to punch in a few numbers. The original passports of the Iranians will have the entry stamps but how can they leave when their stolen passports do not carry any entry stamps in them? Unless the stamps were forged or money changed hands?
