Hazy conditions continue to affect Singapore today attributed to hotspots in southern Johor, blown in by the prevailing north-easterly winds.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) has been in the moderate range since 6pm Tuesday.

 As at 6pm today, the 24-hour PSI is 52–67 and the 24-hour PM2.5 is 37-54 μg/m3 (micrograms per cubic metre).

In a statement, NEA said 59 hotspots were detected in peninsular Malaysia and 35 hotspots in Sumatra yesterday.

Smoke plumes and haze were visible from some of these hotspots.

NEA noted that parts of peninsular Malaysia have been experiencing air quality in the unhealthy to hazardous range today.

As at 4pm this afternoon, the air quality in Port Klang in Selangor is in the hazardous range.

The weather in Singapore is expected to be warm with hazy conditions, with  brief and localised showers over the northern and western parts of Singapore.

NEA expects air quality levels in Singapore to fluctuate over the next 24 hours.

As a precaution, persons with chronic lung or heart conditions are advised to avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion.
