PKR Alor Star parliamentarian Gooi Hsiao Leung wants Prime Minister Najib Razak to be "personally held responsible" for the “gross mishandling” of the investigations into the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines MH370 on March 8, 1.21am.

Gooi said there was "a complete failure and breach of the country's military security measures" when it failed to intercept an unidentified and unauthorised plane in the country’s airspace.

The plane is now confirmed as flight MH370, as flew back over the northern west coast of Malaysia, but with its communication devices shut down.

It was reported that the plane, which carried 239 passengers including 12 crew members, flew past at least three military defence radar arrays.

"If the plane had been intercepted, possibly, MH370 could have been identified, and steps taken to save it," Gooi said, in a statement today.

Gooi also cited the report published in the New York Times on March 15 dated “Series of errors by Malaysia mounts, complicating the task of finding flight 370”.

The report added that there was a failure on the part of the military to identify or report the blip of an unknown intruder flying over Malaysian airspace.

According to the above report, senior Malaysian military officers became aware of the radar data within hours after word spread that the flight MH370 had disappeared.

"Yet the authorities organised and oversaw an expensive and complex international search effort in the Gulf of Thailand which lasted for a full week," said Gooi, who is also Kedah PKR vice-chief.

"The failure by our military to identify flight MH370’s sudden change of course, meant that we had lost out on our one and only chance, of sending out military aircraft to redirect the plane," he added.
