Gov't complacent, cocky or pure incompetent?

YOURSAY ‘We have reduced the chances of survivors to nearly zero now.’

M'sia repeatedly rejected Interpol's help on MH370'

Jesse: True leadership comes into play during a crisis and Malaysian politicians and government institutions have failed miserably due to cockiness when international help was offered.

If a foreign plane had intruded into our airspace, we should have spotted it immediately and acted accordingly. Now we know that there is unlikely to be any reaction from the Air Force when an unidentified plane enters our airspace - someone sleeping on the job?

Too complacent or cocky or sheer incompetence?

When the government makes appointments based on race alone and not meritocracy, the first to suffer is competence. This crisis has simply exposed the obvious incompetence of both the government and its institutions to the world at large.

Even the premier has to read from a prepared text for fear of stumbling. We have fallen so low. What can we do?

Fourtan: The authorities needed more time to cook up some plausible story of denial, perhaps. Malaysiakini , please ask them these:

1. Was RMAF radar monitored in real-time at that night? If not, why not? What is the RMAF standard operating procedure regarding UFOs? Remember, MH370 was zooming around in Malaysian airspace for more than an hour.

2. Did any Malaysian authority acknowledge Vietnam air traffic control’s information that MH370 turned westwards? If not, why not?

3. What did Malaysian authorities do in the hours between 1.07am to 6.30am?

Bad Head: Are you hiding anything? IGP, two days ago, you asked the public not to ask you on the two Iranian passports and now you rejected Interpol's assistance. What is going on, Malaysia?

DontPlayGod: Sad and tragic. In times like this, all help from any source should be welcome, especially from an international body like Interpol.

YUNoAnon: If this claim is true and the government has rejected the help of more experienced agencies, then we have really reduced the chances of survivability of those on the flight to nearly zero now.

Mushiro: The fact is that there are no competent, capable, sincere, hardworking or honest leaders or officials in the government, armed forces or government agencies. We have lost all these talents to the private sector or brain drain overseas.

Ethnicity and political standing are the criteria for promotion in the government sector and this turns off talent. This explains why it has taken eight days for the same information to be analysed by none other than the incompetent and elusive PM.

Gen2: The FBI and Interpol will dig up more incompetencies, negligence and dereliction of duty in all the Malaysian agencies. They will put these into their reports which the Malaysian Umnoputras cannot suppress.

Flyingeagle: RMAF was not able to provide reliable data for MH370 but has all the time to initiate charges against the honest major Zaidi Ahmad and he is now as reported as doing a desk job.

Fellow Malaysians, when you speak the truth against Umno Baru ministers, be prepared to be called up by the police and also be prepared to be behind bars.

The times is right for genuine thinking MPs and state reps to jump ship or be Pakatan friendly to change the UmnoBaru/BN government for the survival of our beloved country.

Awakened: Over the years, Malaysia has been building a culture of no accountability. Year in and year out, the Auditor-General's Report highlights pilferage and obvious abuse of powers.

From rampant corruption to a missing Mongolian woman, no one is accountable. The highest authorities and all the respective institutions seem to be blind and silent.

Slowly and surely, the decay will spread and intensify to every area and level to bring about the Malaysian culture of ‘tidak apa’ (never mind). Denials, fear of taking responsibility and arrogance, will ultimately bring the country down to a level which is irreparable.

Many concerned Malaysians see this disease spreading. It takes a crisis of this magnitude to bring out such culture to the outside world. I do not expect a change of this attitude overnight until and unless a significant population sees this and wants to change it.

EvenSteven: Why should we seek Interpol's help? We have the best police force in the whole world, or didn't they know?

Nippon: The Umno government is definitely keeping some information from the public in their rejection of help from Interpol. Reason might be that they have found something that is detrimental to the Umno government and should not be revealed.

My Opinion CIA, Interpol, FBI ... you were rejected because they are afraid that a can of worms will be opened. And all their evil deeds will be exposed.

Fair Play: By repeatedly rejecting Interpol's assistance, the Malaysian authorities have given credence to the view that they have more to hide than to disclose. The quoted comment, 'It's the old pre-9/11 approach; close-hold information, don't share anything', is rather telling to the discerning world community.

No wonder the Chinese authorities got so impatient that they have resorted to demanding instead of requesting.

Podeh: Nobody is manning our military radar; we have no warplanes to intercept hostile flying objects into our airspace; our billion ringgit Scorpene subs just refuse to sink; we are practically defenceless.

Timor Leste, what are you waiting for? Just send in one captain and six privates to subdue us and increase your land area 100-fold.

Stupidity and arrogance have brought Malaysia to be skewered by the international community. It could be that lives have been lost because of our pride in this instant.

Sadly all Malaysia's talent woes are because of race - the inability of other races to get into top public positions.

Myop101: Why is Malaysia acting alone when this is an international disaster? Don't they understand that Interpol is a multinational agency that can draw on many resources to hasten the investigation?

Marde Parde: Bolehland does not need FBI or Interpol help - we have our home grown 'CIA' Coconut Intelligence Agency and FBI - Federal Bomoh Investigation from 1Malaysia Corporation.
