P ARLIAMENT Opposition MPs are demanding that two BN MPs be referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee for accusing Seputeh MP Teresa Kok of insulting Islam and causing racial tension with her ‘Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014’ video.

However tensions rose in the House after deputy speaker Ismail Mohd Said ruled that Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (BN-Lenggong) and Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) did not mislead the House with their claims on her Chinese New Year video.

M Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat, right ) called for a vote on whether to refer Shamsul and Bung Mokhtar to the Rights and Privileges Committee.

However, Ismail refused to call for a vote and insisted that his decision that the duo did not mislead the House was final.

"Don't play play, deputy speaker. Don't set a precedent like this," a clearly upset Tony Pua (DAP- Petaling Jaya Utara) said.

Earlier Ismail himself told the opposition bench to refer the MPs to the Rights and Privileges Committee if they are unhappy with his ruling.

But when they did do so, Ismail, who appeared defensive, did not want to do so, and abruptly called for a lunch break.

Shamsul Anuar had said of Kok's video that the people "should not touch on sensitive things, and should not insult Islam".

The matter appeared to die down after Shamsul insisted that he only made a general comment and did not refer to Kok personally.

However, Bung Mokhtar soon interjected and repeated the accusation specifically at the video, claiming that it caused chaos in the society.

This started another round of shouting match which ended in confusion when Pakatan MPs stood up, assuming a vote would be called. However, Ismail kept silent, and then called for the lunch break.
