The water treatment plants at Cheras Batu 11 and Bukit Tampoi have yet to operate as the ammonia content in the Langat River is still high.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), in a statement in Kuala Lumpur today, said that rainfall in several areas since yesterday failed to restore the water condition in the river, the source of raw water to the two treatment plants.

Therefore, the first and third stage of the water rationing plan, which is being implemented by the Selangor government will continue, it said.

The plan was carried out to address the shortage of treated water following the closure of the two treatment plants, as well as to reduce the release of raw water from the Sungai Selangor dam and Klang Gates.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Water Association, in a statement today, said the Asia Water 2014 Conference, to be held in Kuala Lumpur from March 19 till 21, would focus, among others, on financing and managing water and wastewater.

With the theme 'Building on Innovative and Sustainable Partnerships in Water', the conference is expected to gather all stakeholders, including industry experts, policy makers and the public.

The conference will see the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between WMA and the Australian Water Association on ‘Capacity Building and Expertise Sharing for Water and Wastewater Sector’.
