Don’t expect transparency from Hisham

YOURSAY ‘Even in times of crisis, Hishammuddin still plays partisan politics.’

Pakatan MPs fume over MH370 briefing snub

Onyourtoes: Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar, what minister’s prerogative are you talking about? Since when the MPs’ right to know a national issue is the prerogative of the minister?

It is also not your right to question the integrity of other MPs. Who are you to decide whether or not they will abuse the information or briefing received?

MPs are elected representatives. They will decide how they shall use the information received and face the consequence if they have violated any law or regulation.

But to exclude opposition MPs from briefing is Third World tribalism, certainly not democracy by any measure.

Now we know why the whole world does not believe Malaysia. Look, acting transport minister, if you are not straight and transparent with our own Malaysian MPs, how could the rest of the world trust you when you gave them briefing?

If you have something to hide from Malaysia's own MPs, surely you have more to hide from the rest of the world.

ACR: What does Noh Omar mean “Pakatan Rakyat would spread the information on social media before the briefing ends”?

Was this briefing for secret society members or MPs? Disseminating the information to the public and families of the victims is the appropriate thing to do.

EvenSteven: Simple. They are just scared they will be roasted by the opposition who will only be asking relevant questions. As for the BN MPs, they have long learned how to nod their heads in agreement.

YUNoAnon : So this is transparency? I don't see how you can reconcile anything when you are selective in allowing who can attend this briefing.

We have a disaster on our hands for over a week now and the BN government still wants to use politics in handling the issue.

So who is to be blamed now when politics is brought into this issue? It looks like BN to me.

Gombak: There have been many theories and hypothesis around missing MH370, but one serious mistake and blunder by Malaysia Air Force was the military failure to act on its radar detection on an UFO (unidentified flying object) now confirmed as MH370.

Instead of admitting to this blunder, the authorities - including the minister and the Air Force chief - chose to go round the bush to find excuse such as the need to analyse the data.

It was such an attitude that have been cultivated over many years governing Malaysia. BN ministers have totally put the country in shame over this incident.

Godfearing: It looks like the country has been constantly evolving from being Bolehland to Bomohland to Slumberland to Blunderland. What next?

Sympathy for the MH370 tragedy has given way to anger at the officials who are so inept in managing the crisis: far too many flip-flops, U-turns and about-turns.

Had all this happened in Japan, the officials would have committed ‘harakiri’ by now.

Bystander: Even in times of crisis, Hishammuddin still play partisan politics by restricting the in-house briefing to BN MPs and on invitation-basis only.

If he is speaking on the platform of the Transport or Defence Ministry then he sure can't be selective with the audience of his choice, can he?

The MH370 crisis is every Malaysian's crisis, and he is the minister for all Malaysians and not Umno or BN.

Not Confused: Is this not typical of an arrogant and deceitful government? Many overseas countries have been commenting about the poor response to the entire MH370 search process.

The lack of intelligent comment and disjointed handling is typical of a dictatorial government which have ruled uninterrupted for 50 years. In such situations, they are not used to be answerable to anyone except themselves.

Through the international dimension of this tragedy, the shortcomings of their rule are being exposed under the full glare of the global media and I'm afraid they are found wanting.

Anonymous#007: I am assuming this is because Umno-BN are the ones who are footing the whole bill for the search-and-rescue operations as well as compensation to the victims.

Otherwise, this is a case for a vote of no confidence in the BN leadership as this action is against the most important tenet of democracy and how it should function. In fact, this is no different from a communist regime.

Additionally, it shows how afraid Umno-BN is of the intellectual capacity of the opposition to outshine them in every way.

Abasir: Hishammuddin, by this action of excluding opposition parliamentarians who represent 52% of rakyat Malaysia, is highlighting the fact that this is an illegitimate regime which does not represent all Malaysians.

Where this loss is concerned, Umno believes that this is not a national tragedy affecting all citizens but one that merely exposes the gross incompetence of the regime and shames its leaders like never before.

Hence the exclusive briefing designed to get the rogues to spin and lie their way out as they meet gullible rural folk.

Unfortunately for the inepts in the Putrajaya cockpit, this is now a matter of international concern, which means that the hard questions will continue coming at 5.30pm - a most uncomfortable hour for those used to twisting and turning the facts.

Anon1: The pilot could have deliberately hijacked the aircraft and demanded that either the conviction of DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim) is overturned and/or that the government resigns for fresh elections.

Fighter jets were scrambled but unable to force Boeing 777 (MH370) to land on March 8. The aircraft landed in some friendly country and has been granted crew and passengers temporary asylum.

The secret meeting of BN representatives probably to ponder on next course of action. Good script for a movie, eh?
