Still awaiting an apology from Wan Junaidi
YOURSAY ‘Wan Junaidi, you have brought disgrace to Sarawakians.’
MMA: Statutory rape claim 'shocking beyond belief'
Aries46: If not mistaken, this is not the first time that Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has stuffed his foot in his mouth.
This unnecessary politicising and racial profiling of a serious national problem that cuts across racial lines is not only uncalled but detrimental to the plight of the real victims of statutory rape.
An apology from Wan Junaidi for his latest gaffe is of little consequence as he is definitely a liability in any official position due to his tendency to view issues from a jaundiced racist perspective.
Any one of the Malay/Muslim rights rabble-rousing outfits would be an ideal sanctuary for the likes of him.
Adsertor: Wan Junaidi, you have brought disgrace to Sarawakians and our glorious land with your preposterous and deplorable statement made without substantial proof.
You should resign immediately as you are not fit to be a minister nor represent Santubong as their MP.
It is obvious that there is a monumental social problem here. Yet you choose to ignore it and play race politics.
Any decent minister that has the rakyat in his/her heart will not look at the racial aspect and will focus on the problem at hand, i.e. working on a solution to eliminate statutory rape in this country.
Ace: Very well said, Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) president Dr NKS Tharmaseelan. Indeed, politicians should not use race and religion to defend social problems.
What really strikes the public's mind is the extreme level of the unfounded statement and generalised personal opinion put forward here.
Can we conclude that the so-called minister is really stupid, uncouth and is a disgrace to Malaysians for coming up with such a presumptuous notion?
He is not fit to be a minister and all Malaysians, especially the non-Malays, should not stop condemning him until he unreservedly apologise in all MSM (mainstream media) as well as online newspapers.
Appum: Tharmaseelan, I would like the statement made by Wan Junaidi to be recorded in the minutes of the parliamentary sessions so that in future when this country has failed under this incompetent Umno-BN regime, students and researchers of the future can understand how this country is run by such kind of ministers.
YUNoAnon: Thanks Dr Tharmaseelan, Wan Junaidi must be more educated than you to be able to draw his conclusion. He must surely know something medically related that you in the medical fraternity have failed to notice.
Or, as you have said and is most likely the case, he is being racist. BN condones racism. And so it is evident in this idiot's statement. There's no need to ask again.
This man is as shallow, racist and stupid as they come. And BN claims they are in touch with "the pulse of the people" and want national unity. Wan Junaidi is another who continues to ensure this will never happen.
Ratbatblue: In medical science, many conditions/diseases can be linked with racial preponderance and Malaysia is a medical researcher's paradise in the sense that there are three large ethnic groups living under more or less similar environmental conditions, so scientific data can be readily collected and analysed easily.
Has Wan Junaidi access to data (if available) pertaining to studies (if any) conducted among the non-Malays to ascertain if they are averse to reporting statutory rape?
If so, I would be grateful for references so as to study this interesting data and make my own conclusions.
Until such time, the only logical conclusion that could be come to is that this minister has shown racial prejudice and to cut a long story short, is a racist.
The sad thing is that he didn't bat an eyelid when he made this statement. This smacks of scant respect for the minority non-Muslims, and maybe some of his constituents too.
Onyourtoes: It is the deputy minister’s own fault if he can’t understand statistics. To me, this is not the way to present statistics.
There are more Malays in the country; surely the number of occurrences attributed to them would be higher than Chinese and Indians. Similarly, Chinese are not worse than Indians because the number of Chinese in the country is easily more than double that of Indians.
But in this case and without doing the test, I think there are significant differences among the races on incest and child rape.
Versey: The deputy home minister is not only "disgraceful and preposterously racist", he has indirectly sending a most disgustingly wrong message that the non-Muslims are carefree with their chastity. It is a very severe insult to the non-Muslim community.
The PM should sack this deputy home minister if he does not apologise and resign. MPs from all parties should press for his resignation.
Paul Warren: What is most shocking is to find out that MIC and MCA accept Wan Junaidi's interpretation of statistics. They are after all silent, aren't they?
Is it true then that child rape is common place amongst MIC and MCA members and their families?
As none of my friends and relatives are MCA and MIC members, I can only vouch for the fact that the Indian and Chinese community who are not MIC or MCA members do not condone or for that matter practice child rape or sex as Wan Junaidi has argued.
Corgito Ergo Sum: This is the type of leaders who are handling the MH370 tragedy. I think it’s calamitous that we have elected such openly racist people and even tolerate their bigotry.
'It’s okay... we can take it' - this is the kind of attitude MCA and MIC have ingrained into Umno.
