The Selangor government has fingered the 'greedy' federal government for putting profit above proper youth ethics by approving the Future Music Festival Asia 2014 (FMFA) last weekend.

 

Six lives were lost due to excessive taking of drugs and alcohol there.

 

Selangor Youth and Sports executive committee member Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi ( centre in pic ) said ‘wild’ events like this one should have never been permitted in this country as it enticed youth into a hedonistic lifestyle.

 

"I now am afraid to think what the future holds for the young Malaysians - whether they will be able to escape from the captivity of a culture dedicated to wild passions into a healthy lifestyle - if the federal government insists on using the "end justifies the means" concept in search of worldly profits," Ahmad Yunus wrote in a press statement.

 

According to latest reports in Sinar Harian today, 29 people were caught abusing drugs at the concert - 14 locals and 15 foreigners.

The report quoted police sources saying six have died of drug overdose, while six more are still undergoing treatment in hospitals. Another nine have been recently been released from hospitals.

 

The FMFA concert at Bukit Jalil stadium was supposed to stretch over three days and expected to attract over 80,000 fans to see a line-up of over 70 bands and artistes. It was subsequently cancelled after the deaths on Friday.

 

Ahmad Yunus, also the PAS state assemblyperson for Sijangkang, said that federal government should follow the examples set by the opposition government.

 

He cited that Pakatan Rakyat as having produced religious youths with high morals and integrity in the states of Kelantan, Selangor and Penang.

 

PKR youth leader and Seri Setia state assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad had also urged Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to take responsibility for the incident.

 

But BN government fired back through its Kajang candidate Chew Mei Fun who said that Pakatan government was to blame for derelict youth for licensing massage parlours, entertainment centres and cybercafes.
