PARLIAMEN T Pakatan Rakyat has mooted for the setting up of a bi-partisan parliamentary select committee (PSC) on the missing Flight MH370 crisis, which it said should be set up only after the search and rescue (SAR) efforts for the flight is over.

Anthony Loke (DAP-Seremban) moved the motion verbally today, as an amendment to an earlier motion tabled by Shahrir Samad (BN-Johor Baru) for the House to be in solidarity over the missing flight incident.

However, he was told by deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee to submit the motion in writing, which he said he would submit later today.

A decision on the matter is only expected to be taken by speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia ( left ) towards the end of next week, when the ministerial answers to issues raised in the royal debate are concluded.

Loke said that parliamentarians from both sides of the political divide need to be united on this matter, in order to prove Acting Transport Minister Hishamuddin Hussein's statement recently that the crisis is "above politics".

 

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, in a press conference after that, said that the opposition will be more than willing to support if the government backbenchers table the proposal for the PSC.

 

"If they can't accept a motion from the opposition, we have no problem withdrawing the motion if they come up with a similar one. We would then fully support it," he said.
