Australian Parliament can discuss MH370, we can't
YOURSAY 'This is a serious incident yet our speaker refused to allow it.'
Possible debris found in roughest part of the world
Trublumalaysian: The spotting of possible debris in the Indian Ocean is the most positive news thus far and the way Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced it in their Parliament speaks for itself regarding transparency.
All considered, it proves one very salient point - that the Umno Baru government's gross inefficiencies, arrogance and ‘kelam kabut’ (chaotic) ways have stripped them bare naked of their fine suits and hollow rhetoric for the whole world to witness.
Appum: The point here is MH370 is not an Australian carrier, yet Abbott is sensible enough to announce the news to all MPs in the Australian Parliament and kept them informed on the search in their Parliament House.
This is a serious incident for our country involving our national carrier, yet our House speaker refused to allow this topic to be discussed in Parliament, which is currently in session.
The real state of affairs shown to us in the past 12 days is that our leaders are totally inept. If they have realised this early and do not attempt to hide their own limited capability and available resources, they could have sought help earlier and resolved this matter earlier.
Denials, delays, kiasuness, withholding information, saving face, confusion - these are typical characteristics of Umno-BN.
Dalvik: I am watching the news conference by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (Amsa). The authority's general manager speaks with facts.
They can give exact figures such as "one piece was approximately 24 metres". This is something that Malaysia must learn.
SMC77: I totally agree with Dalvik. Learn from other countries on how to disclose information to the public and handle the situation on a timely basis.
More importantly, this is disclosed by the Australian PM. When will PM Najib Razak show his face?
Anonymous #25558299: Najib will probably confirm the news on the missing MH370 on March 23, 2014 together with the Kajang by-election result. Till then, he won't show his face. So finally it will be Australia that concludes the findings, not the Boleh Nation (BN).
The whole world will curse Najib and his Umno-Baru group for being incompetent, incapable, and having no knowledge on anything except gerrymandering to win elections, throwing cash to buy votes, and abusing the judiciary to convict opposition leaders.
Dizzer: Compare the Australian air commodore - a normal. plain-speaking bloke in shirt sleeves - with our military generals at the press conference, who are confused, inarticulate and festooned with medals.
James TCLow : Malaysia should learn from other countries on how to handle situations like these however "malu" (ashamed) we may be now.
Don't cover up, scream racism or blasphemy, and understand that no one is against Malay rule and everyone subscribes to constitutional monarchy in Malaysia.
Not Smart: A point to be noted by all Malaysians is the involvement of the Australian PM in the search for MH370, whereas our own PM never attends press conferences and Q&A sessions with the press.
Except on one occasion - to read a prepared statement. The crisis appears to be managed by one minister with two portfolios and heads of departments of relevant authorities.
DVDL: I hope if this is true, and that the Australian government recovers the black box and uncover what was really behind the disappearance because our government will not reveal the truth if it is inconvenient to them.
Yours And My Malaysia: I am praying that they have found the plane. I also wish they find the black box, and hope they do not give it to Malaysia.
Also see how Australia respects the Parliament. The PM makes the announcement in the Lower House, not like the pseudo parliament under Umno.
Bamboo: Yes, don't hand over the black box to the Malaysian government. They might just deliberately delete all the information contained.
Even though this might be bad news for the families of those on board, but it's a closure for the families.
Anonymous #89734714: Indeed, do not hand anything to the Malaysian government. If it is not in their favour, they will alter it to suit themselves and start the lying game all over again.
Podeh: From the comments in Malaysiakini , we Malaysians don't seem to trust our own government one bit.
Oh Najib, what have you done to us that we prefer to hand the black box to the Australians rather than to Umno Baru?
