KAJANG The recently-released public survey by Universiti Selangor (Unisel) only reflected one percent of the Kajang voters' sentiment, in contradiction to the feelings on the ground, said BN candidate Chew Mei Fun.

Commenting on the findings that showed only 34.2 percent of voters gave the thumbs-up to her leadership, Chew said this would not discourage her in her campaign.

“In this constituency, some are black areas and some are white areas, so 349 voters (are interviewed), but there are over 39,000 voters here, so this is a one percent (comparison),” she said after attending a tea session at Kampung Bukit Angkat industrial area yesterday.

Based on the latest electoral roll, registered voters number 39,278 in Kajang, with 48.5 percent Malays, 40.28 percent Chinese and 10.29 percent Indians.

According to the last general elections' result, of all 16 ballot boxes, PKR lost four – Sungai Segamat, Sungai Kantan, Taman Delima and Batu 10 Cheras.

Unisel carried out a week-long survey and interviewed 394 Kajang voters. The result showed that PKR president-cum-candidate Wan Azizah Wan Ismail received the support of 62.4 percent of the interviewed voters while Chew's was low.

'Struggle to the end' vow

Although findings of several surveys released recently are not siding BN, but fired up by enthusiasm, Chew said, she would struggle till the end.

“What we got from the ground is different with this finding, but it's okay, I will work hard till the end for victory,” she stressed.

On Wednesday, Unisel senior lecturer Muhammad Shamshinor Abdul Azzis disclosed that around 10 percent of the respondents expressed their unwillingness to vote, which may prove to be an obstacle to PKR's target of a 7,000 majority win.

To this, Chew echoed the findings by saying that many are annoyed by the engineered Kajang election and chose to boycott it, but refused to comment if the situation could be electorally fruitful to the BN.
