The Sessions Court in Butterworth today ordered three policemen to enter defence for a charge of raping and forcing unnatural sex on an Indonesian woman two years ago.

Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi made the decision after concluding that the prosecution had successfully established a prima facie case against the three accused.

He also set May 9 for the defence to be called.

Corporal Nik Sin Mat Lazim, 34, Constable Remy Anak Dana, 26, and Constable Syahiran Romli, 22, were charged with raping the Indonesian woman at Room 4 of the Perai police station barracks here between 6.40am and 7.30am on Nov 9,  2012.

The charge under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

They were also charged with forcing unnatural sex on the woman on the same day and at the same time and place, which also carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping if convicted under Section 377(C) of the same Code.

Deputy public prosecutors Muna Mohd Jaafar and Maziah Mansur prosecuted. Nik Sin and Remy were represented by lawyer Abdul Roni Rahman, while Syahiran was represented by RSN Rayer.
