Rainfall over several areas in the past few days has increased the water level in Sungai Selangor, said Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).

Syabas assistant general manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Priscilla Alfred said the increased level has increased raw water at Sungai Selangor Phase 1,2 3, Sungai Rasa and Rantau Panjang water treatment plants.

As a result, additional treated water was channeled to several areas involved in Stage Three Water Rationing Plan including Gombak, Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam.

"However, Syabas continues to control and reduce the release of water from Sungai Selangor Dam and continue the Water Rationing Plan approved by the National Water Services Commission (Span)," Alfred said in a statement today.

It also continued First Stage Water Rationing Plan implemented after the closure of Cheras Batu 11 and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants due to ammonia contamination.

Syabas was also monitoring Cheras Batu 11 and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants which began operation since March 17 and 19 due to uncertainty whether the ammonia level.

The water treatment plants would continue to operate according to the quality of raw water and channel supply to areas involved in the Water Rationing Plan such as Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang.

The Water Rationing Plan would continue indefinitely until decided otherwise by the Selangor state government, said the statement.
