Wan Junaidi: I didn't say non-Malays 'less touchy'

Aries46: The denial by Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s private secretary Wan Hamzah Wan Paie does not seem to add anything new to what has been attributed to the deputy minister in the Hansard that reads:

“Sebenarnya, oleh kerana orang Melayu sensitif sangat kepada kes-kes seks di antara belia ini, maka laporan mesti dibuat oleh pihak-pihak ini.

“Pihak lain mungkin kurang sensitif kepadanya maka nisbahnya dapat diterima, perkara yang berlaku itu boleh diterima oleh pihak-pihak lain.”

In fact, the clarification basically reaffirms what was initially reported - that unlike Malays who are very sensitive to sex among minors, the non-Malays are more acceptable (less sensitive) of this matter. Anything else is new, Wan Junaidi?

YUNoAnon: This is the proverbial "jumping from the frying pan and into the fire". The latest statement is no less offensive and racist. In fact, it is worse.

Now you are effectively saying that non-Malays fully accept statutory rape. Are you really that retarded? Wan Hamzah, the answer is not brave, it is stupid.

Again, this "revised" statement shows that it is made with no evidence to back up his statement. Your statement is pure conjecture. Meaning, you pulled this theory out of thin air.

The statistics show the Malays commit the highest number of statutory rapes. Why? That is for you to go and research. Not to come up with stupid half-baked theories with no proof.

And Wan Hamzah, the one who are easily provoked are the extremist, racist Malays. Look at Isma, Perkasa and Umno. Don't blame others for the weaknesses and shortcomings of your friends in your party.

Ferdtan: After the controversial statement made by Wan Junaidi, now his private secretary tries to explain or look for an excuse, obviously an afterthought, by looking at all possible angles and statistics to get Wan Junaidi off the hook for his racist reply in Parliament.

Let's not argue about semantics; we all know what our minister meant - he meant what he said and said what he meant.

It was only after many brickbats from the public even from some BN leaders that he tried to wriggle out of a tight spot. And worse still, he has no guts to defend himself; he needs his assistant to do it for him. Shame on you.

Honestly we do not trust the accuracy of the figures of the number of children born out of wedlock to underaged children given by Wan Junaidi’s private secretary, Wan Hamzah.

Was it made conveniently to support the explanation? In the past, when Pakatan Rakyat leaders asked of the statistics of crimes committed around the country, BN ministers at various times gave different set of numbers.

Was that the reason why the minister himself did not want to clarify publicly and letting his assistant to take the responsibility to issue the press statement? Any mistake detected after this will not be his fault, it will be his assistant’s.

We wonder if Pakatan still have time to submit more questions in Parliament to determine the accuracy of the statistics. Right now the release of the figures is made non-officially which has no punitive consequences.

Multi Racial: Non-Malays reported less on rape case does not necessary mean non-Malays are less sensitive. Only idiots made such conclusion.

What is the different in deputy minister’s clarification? Reading his statement, it confirmed he said non-Malays are less sensitive to rape.

Chee Hoe Siew: So is our deputy minister now saying that because the Malays fear of wedlock that once the girls found they are pregnant, they report rape?

Wow! Then we are going to have a lot of guys wrongly accused of rape when it is consensual sex.

Wedlock does not relate to less sensitive to statutory rape, Wan Junaidi. How can you even think of using different statistics to justify another?

Boiling Mud: Let's just stick to child rapes instead of muddling up the issue with totally unrelated statistics of number of children born outside the wedlock.

This is no difference to saying other communities are less sensitive or not sensitive to child rape. It is still a racist statement, no matter how one dresses it up.

Onyourtoes: This is interesting, the National Registration Department (NRD) recorded all births of unmarried underaged girls without having to determine whether statutory rapes had occurred and police reports have been made.

May be it is time for the NRD disclose how they record and keep the statistics.

Anonymous#007: This is a poor attempt to cover up the clearly racist, seditious and stupid remark. On what basis did Wan Junaidi come to the conclusion based on the statistics alone (assuming they are correct)?

How does he know for sure how many cases were not reported? How about those that were raped but did not get pregnant?

Everything is wrong and malicious with this set of data. He and his secretary ought to be sacked. Remember the national Malay bowler who was let off for technically raping an underaged girl?

Now, that is being accepting of underaged sex. And this is based on a solid fact.

CHKS: The statistics "number of children born out of wedlock to underaged children" is too broad to support the claim that non-Malays are less sensitive to the matter (of sex between youths) which in turn, does not explain the high statistics of statutory rape among Malays.

Who are included in this "underaged children"? "Underaged children" means below 18 years old. Statutory rape means involving a girl below 16 years old (not 18 years old).

The statistics simply does not tell us the percentage of those who are above 16 but below 18, and those who are below 16 years old? The minimum age of child marriage in Malaysia under the syariah law is 16 years old - which means, you can rape them, then marry them.

Under civil law, the minimum age for a non-Malay girl to marry is 18 years. Which means, even if the non-Malay girl wants to marry, they can't. Furthermore, you can marry them (hence not captured as "born out of wedlock") but divorce them later on.

Stop confusing the public. Confront this social problem and do something about it.

RKR: If you read Wan Junaidi's speech in Parliament, it is very clear that he meant non-Malays are more accepting to child rape incidents compared to Malays, a conclusion that he apparently derived from NRD statistics which shows more birth out of wedlock for the non-Malays.

Only an uneducated fool will come to such a conclusion based on these numbers because there could be numerous other reasons why there are fewer ‘out of wedlock’ birth among Malays.

One must study all socio-cultural aspects before making such sweeping statements.

Oriole: Did all these fellows go to the same school of idiocy? First of all, what is the difference between "are not sensitive" and "are less sensitive"? Either way it is still an insult.

And how convenient for Wan Hamzah that suddenly these NRD statistics appeared. Why did Wan Junaidi not refer to these "statistics" earlier? Or is this a conspiracy of the Wans to save Junaidi the trouble of apologising?

CiViC: I read the "explanation" here three times and yet I still see the same meaning regardless what words Wan Junaidi used. Obviously another case of denial.
