DAP chairman Karpal Singh has filed a notice of appeal against the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to find him guilty of sedition against the Sultan of Perak and imposing a RM4,000 fine on him.

Lawyer Zaleha Al-Hayat, who represented Karpal, said when contacted that copies of the notice of appeal have been served on the attorney-general and the Court of Appeal Registry.

Zaleha said a letter had also been served to Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail concerning deputy public prosecutor Noorin Badaruddin's alleged misconduct on the day of the High Court ruling on March 11, this year.

A copy of the letter was also served to Noorin about 5pm today, she said. The letter, dated yesterday, from Karpal Singh's law firm, had extended a copy of a briefing note by the Malaysian Bar, concurring the allegations against Noorin's misconduct at its recent meeting.

On March 11, Karpal Singh, 73, was found guilty and fined RM4,000 by the High Court for uttering seditious words at his legal firm on Jalan Pudu Lama on Feb 6, 2009.

He was alleged to have said that the removal of Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as the menteri besar of Perak and the appointment of Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir as the new menteri besar by the sultan could be questioned in court.
