Confirmed: MH370 went down in Indian Ocean

Haveagreatday: As we feel for the grief and anger of the relatives of the passengers on board MH370, we must take the authorities to account for their handling of this disaster.

Yes, acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is correct, our country has not faced a crisis of this nature and magnitude before. Yet this does not absolve the authorities from blame on how they handled the human aspect of this tragedy.

Look at the litany of errors highlighted by the world media and it is these aspects that made the relatives based in China distrustful of the Malaysian authorities.

As CNN pointed out if they have heard the rumours, even if they are not true, first from Malaysian representatives in China rather than from the social media, a more trusting relationship may have evolved.

Instead until the anger boiled over, only low level MAS representatives were briefing the relatives in Beijing.

But this is symptomatic of our government - they have been so used to treating the rakyat here with contempt, and they can't do things any differently.

Zen: I can’t imagine how the Malaysian government can continue to manage what they do and say from now on.

The world has judged our handling of the MH370 crisis in a very negative light. Are they wrong and we are right or are they right and we are wrong?

We must switch to a damage control mode immediately to stop this sliding perception before it gets worse.

Avenger: In our time of sorrow, we have a corrupt and incompetent government which has made things worse. How stupid the Malaysian authorities looked when in the international spotlight.

Behaving like frogs under coconut shells, and oblivious to the country’s deficiencies in education, public services, law enforcement, and a legal system of supposedly world-class standard.

But still, enough Malaysians are being fooled by the Malaysian authorities. Malaysia is going downhill - growing crime and corruption, growing racism and religious intolerance, weakening of law and order, falling standards of education and healthcare, and growing economic imbalances.

The politicians will make the fighting amongst the people more and more vicious. The leaders of the various races in the government are busy stealing for themselves and throwing the bones to the people, and telling the people of each race that the people of the other races are their enemies.

SpongeBob: Hishammuddin has carry out this SAR (search and rescue) mission remarkably well despite limited resources and expertise. He has handled the press conference well, too.

He has saved the nation from many embarrassing moments from some clowns, which includes the PM. Thank you, Hishammuddin.

Mosquitobrain: But the defence minister (Hishammuddin) has yet to comment on why his officers failed to take immediate action when an unidentified flying object (UFO) was detected by TUDM (Royal Malaysian Air Force) radar systems in the Malaysia airspace (north) the very first day MH370 went missing around 1.31am.

TUDM should have sent plane/s to intercept the intruder/s, request for identification or get it to make a force landing. If SOP (standard operating procedure) and appropriate actions have been taken, we would not be in this situation today.

What if the intruder/s drop two bombs at Putrajaya, say on the PM’s residence? Can Hishammuddin and the whole Defence Ministry be so blase and irresponsible about such a possibility?

Bobster: Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is former defence minister, should be held accountable for failure to upgrade the military radar and wasted billions of ringgit on useless submarines which unable to do search and rescue.

A military radar that took eight days to confirm a plane turning back into our airspace obviously shows the kind of outdated technology we have.

Malaysia is now 100 percent dependent on foreign aid for SAR. The government is unable to locate our own national carrier, and yet they claim they are competent to build nuclear power plants in this country.

Magnus: There are no words I can add to this poignant conclusion. Other than to maybe say, that I have been very harsh throughout this crisis to minister Hishammuddin.

To be fair, I must say that the minister did a whole lot better than some others so I offer him my sincere empathy and respect.

Condolence: It is so sad to hear the grim news from the PM. Although most of us have expected the worst it is still heart wrenching to hear about the tragic end. My condolence to all the family members of the passengers of MH370.

Anonymous_3f4b: This is not the time for remonstration nor play the blame game. The Malaysian government have done its best to find the plane.

Praise and gratefulness be extended to all the countries which assist in the SAR operations especially the use of satellite technology and sophisticated state-of-the-art sonar equipment.

The prime minister and the acting transport minister have done well in the tribulation and trying times of the last two weeks. This is an unprecedented disaster which has no parallel in modern aviation history.

Apa Ini?: At a time like this, our only thoughts must be with the families of those who went down that flight. We hope they will find peace in time.

This must include the families of the pilots. They have suffered as much as any others with family on board, if not more. Let the search continue and the truth will emerge in time.
