Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will witness the signing of a final peace agreement this week between the Philippine government and the country’s largest Muslim rebel group, officials said today.

Najib would “fly in (to Manila) and fly out the same day” tomorrow, said Philippine Foreign Department spokesperson Charles Jose.

The Malaysian premier is facing a crisis at home over a Malaysian plane carrying 239 people thought to have crashed at sea.

The Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro to be signed in Manila with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front is a roadmap for a new Muslim autonomous region called Bangsamoro or Muslim Nation by 2016.

It is being signed after 17 years of negotiations held under five different presidents and facilitated by Malaysia.
