Four non-governmental organisations yesterday staged a protest against the proposal to build the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR) which is claimed will cross the Selangor Heritage Park forest reserve.

The groups gathered peacefully in front of the Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam to protest against the action of the state government and the federal government because the proposed project would intrude into the  forest reserve and destroy flora and fauna.

Executive director of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), Shah Redza Hussein said the construction of KLORR would impact negatively because the reserve is a water catchment area supplying water to Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The shortage of water experienced by the people in the three areas would worsen in the future especially if the water catchment forest was intruded into, he added.

The other NGOs involved were Treat Every Environment Special (TrEES), Save Our Sungai Selangor (SOS Selangor) and World Wide Fund Nature-Malaysia (WWF Malaysia).
