PARLIAMENT The Dewan Rakyat was told today that the Prevention of Crime Act (PCA) (Amendment and Extension) 2013, dedicated to fight organised crime, will come into effect on Wednesday.     

Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the Act will be gazetted tomorrow and would be enforced on Wednesday, demonstrating the government's committment to combat criminal activities and organised crime.

He was replying to a supplementary question by Tiong King Sing (BN-Bintulu) who wanted to know when the amended Act will be implemented, at the Dewan Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur today.

Wan Junaidi explained that the amended Act would enable suspected criminals to be detained without trial for up to two years.

It also stipulates the formation of a Prevention of Crime Board to determine the issuance of detention orders.

To the original question from Hasbullah Osman (BN-Gerik), who wanted to know how the board members would be appointment, Wan Junaidi said the appointments would be made solely by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the prime minister.

“The Home Ministry and the Royal Malaysian Police were not directly involved in the appointment of the board members,” he said.
