The Coroner’s Court in Kampar today ruled that the death of detainee M Ragu, who was found dead at the Kampar police lock-up last year, was due to natural causes.
Coroner Melati Diana Abdul Wahab, in her judgment, said this was based on evidence and testimony of 10 witnesses called during the inquest proceeding.
She said the detainee, M Ragu, died from lung embolism, due to his body’s low hydration and prolonged lung infection.
As such, the victim’s death was due to natural causes and with that, the inquest proceeding, assisted by deputy public prosecutor Loke Kok Mun and lawyer M Kulasegaran (who is holding a watching brief for the victim’s family), is closed, she added.
Ragu, 47, who was detained at the police lock-up, was reported to have died from lung embolism at 8am on March 10 last year, two days after the Kampar magistrate’s court sentenced him to eight years’ jail and RM2,000 fine after finding him guilty under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
