Ku Li: Subsidies for IPPs an 'unforgivable sin'

Not Smart: Between 1997 and 2011, presumably you, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, were a parliamentarian with the ruling government and you are also a party to "a sin which cannot be forgiven” for the RM136.5 billion subsidies that have been paid to independent power producers (IPPs).

 

You have declared that this will be your last term as MP, so why only now do you dare to be vocal on this issue? It looks like sinners are now redeeming the sins as age catches up.

 

Recently we heard there were some surprises on the Memali issue . Who’s next to confess?

 

Fair&Just: Umno has committed too many sins. The effects are cascading back like a tsunami picking up speed, starting with the mini earthquake in Kedah, kidnappings in Sabah, MH370 disappearance, the Lynas plant's road spill and more.

 

From top trickling down the hierarchy, all the corrupt offenders and their descendants shall pay for all the sins.

 

Nik RK: Ku Li is right (subsidies for the independent power producers is a sin). If I may add two more points:

 

a) Kelantan has contributed to the IPP subsidies indirectly since royalty payments have been denied to us.

 

b) Malaysia also indirectly subsidises YTL's expansion into the water industry in United Kingdom which they acquire through their reserve funds accumulated for years from subsidy-generated profit.

 

IPPs enjoying monopoly status and subsidies should have been mandated to plow back into the same sectors in Malaysia.

 

It's a no brainer to guess who was responsible for this daylight robbery. And who was a comrade in arms with him.

 

Swipenter Mahathir is a firm supporter of the "trickle down effect". So he wanted to have a few super rich to give the "trickle down effect" a chance to work.

The only problem is that the poor would have to subsidise the rich in order for them to become mega rich first.

 

So far, the few mega rich are still feeling not rich enough. So the poor still have to continue subsidising them.

 

Dr Suresh Kumar: Ku Li, you were the former finance minister and Petronas chairperson, you were in a position of power to stop the rot, alas you did zilch.

 

Now, after spending a whopping half a trillion ringgit, you see it fit to talk and whine about the welfare of pensioners and the poor. Indeed, you too have committed a grave sin as you worked in cahoots with Umno, the plunderers.

 

Clearwater: Petronas reports only to the prime minister of the day and not to Parliament. What single human being would not be tempted by its oil riches if he is accountable to no one but himself?

 

Onyourtoes: The last time I checked, Ku Li is still very much in Umno, longing for its presidency and perhaps still yearning to be the premier of Malaysia.

 

Would Ku Li have made a difference if he was PM? I don’t think so. Even Anwar Ibrahim would not have made a difference.

 

The mother of all problems in Malaysia today is Umno. The Umno presidency is just the icing on the cake. It does not matter whether it is Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Najib Razak or Ku Li, the result would be the same.

 

The jingoistic and racist Umno would set the agenda and decide the ethos and direction of this nation.

 

I have always believed this: a right person can’t be in a wrong party. Umno, MCA and MIC will continue to attract people with the 'right' attributes and value systems.

 

There will be no exception. Please don’t tell me this time around so and so in Umno, MCA or MIC is different. If we want to save Petronas and this country, kick Umno into the garbage bin for good.

 

Gombak: The beauty of Malaysian politicians is they only talk on issues most tragic to the people after they have left positions of power. What is the point, it only makes the people who have all this while smelled the rot feel angrier?

 

A former finance minister like Ku Li should have resigned at that point of time if he couldn't make amends, if just to show he was serious to champion the issue for the people.

 

Not now while he still professes love with Umno, the party that has damaged the country's economy. He’s a real hypocrite.

 

Ketuanan Rakyat: An oracle surfacing for air occasionally to fire salvos and get people agitated and then hibernating the rest of the time accomplishes what, Ku Li?

 

Presumably you were in a position, are in a position still and probably will be in a position to do something about the many "sins which cannot be forgiven”, but you have done nothing.

 

Lionking: Ku Li and former DPM Musa Hitam are the yesteryear leaders who could have made a difference but instead they sacrificed the good of the country over their party Umno.

 

Seriously if they had the good of the nation at heart, then they could have been more vocal instead of supporting Umno. Maybe self-interest over the interests of the nation is more important to them.
