Police have remanded a man from Perak for allegedly fabricating an image of Rosmah Mansor that was posted on Facebook.

The 28-year old was arrested at his house in Seri Iskandar at midnight yesterday, after reports were lodged on April 4, Berita Harian reported today.

A Facebook user named ‘Syed Saifullah’ had pasted an image of Rosmah’s face on a dead body with the caption ‘From Him we come and to Him we will return’. The posting also said she had died in an air crash.

The report quoted KL Deputy CID chief Khairi Arasa as issuing a warning against abuse of social media accounts “to spread lies and speculate” on issues.

Khairi said the police had also taken away handphones and computer equipment from the man’s house.

The suspect will be remanded until tomorrow for investigation under the Communications and Multimedia (Cybercrime) Act Section 23 (1) and Penal Code Section 505, for slander and public betrayal.

Reacting to the report, Rosmah told Bernama that she hopes the man will “repent and walk the straight path again”.

She said she was first informed of the matter when she was abroad but had said “don't entertain this boy ... don't go down to their level”.
