Several water treatment plants which source raw water from the Selangor River have begun to increase the release of treated water following rain over the past few days, according to water

concessionaire Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas).    

It identified these plants as the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, Sungai Selangor Phase 2, Sungai Selangor Phase 3, Sungai Rasa and Rantau Panjang.

“This additional water is being channelled by Syabas to the areas affected by the water rationing, but it is only as a temporary measure.

“As such, consumers in the areas subjected to rationing are advised to use water sparingly and store enough water from time to time for their needs,” the company said in a statement issued yesterday.

The statement said Syabas was informed by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) that water in the Sungai Selangor Dam remained at a low level.

The statement advised consumers, both in the areas under rationing and elsewhere, to use water sparingly.

“Consumers are reminded not to engage in prohibited activities in trying to secure water supply, such as damaging the mains. These are offences which carry a heavy penalty,” the statement said.

Syabas advised building management bodies of flats and condominiums to exercise control over their water storage tanks by ensuring stable levels prior to releasing water to the residents.

“This is to ensure that the residents subjected to a schedule receive water supply as per the schedule,” it said.
