Swipenter: A direct tender to build the Kuala Lumpur Women and Children's Hospital with a 25-year contract for maintenance? Where do we ever find a contract for 25 years anywhere in the world, except in Bolehland?
This means they can milk the hospital for a princely sum of RM1.88 billion over a 25-year period. For the next 25 years, nobody has a chance to tender for the job.
This is the same thing with the company doing catering for MAS (Malaysia Airlines). Of course, the catering company just happens to belong to the relative of some politician.
Corruption, avarice, naked greed and cronyism are written all over the face of Bolehland, where only a small class of politically well-connected gets to be super rich from lucrative jobs through direct tender and/or service contracts that have a period of more than 20 years.
This is how the blood-sucking and rent-seeking cronies corner everything for themselves and for their families.
Roti Chanai: Direct tender? I have never heard of that before. Anyone would like to clarify?
Cocomomo: There is no such thing as "direct tender". We do have closed tenders (limited to selected parties to tender for a project) and open tenders. What Deputy Health Minister Dr Hilmi Yahya meant to say was a negotiated contract. The rakyat keep getting robbed.
Zen: Gosh, again a 25-year contract of RM1.88 billion just like the supplier of in-flight food and beverages for MAS which was also granted a 25-year contract for RM6 billion?
Why not a normal three to five-year contract renewal upon satisfactory performance? Why 25 years? Is 25 a lucky number for some VVVIP?
Jstom: “Direct tender” has been BN's standard operating procedure for the last 56 years. Why are we surprised now?
Anonymous_3faa: Direct tender, closed tender - this is just routine for the Umno government, and they continue to do this without batting an eyelid. They have an absolute absence of conscience, governance and financial prudence.
So what are you going to, or what can you, do about it? Nothing. All the baying by the opposition, public accounts committee (PAC)... all will be absolutely ignored. This is daylight robbery and nothing can be done.
Nonbeliever: The finance minister, health minister and the prime minister should be hauled to the court over this “direct tender” because “direct tender” equals “corrupt tender”.
All component parties and the opposition must not commit the 'sin of the holy silence' by keeping quiet. Is "direct tender” God's will?
Doc: This is the usual Umno-BN crap. This tender is given to an Umno crony. In the end, after RM1.6 billion has been spent on the hospital construction, it will not be finished.
The cost of the project will balloon to at least three times the original sum before it is finished, so more Umno cronies can enjoy the money dished out by the government.
Once the hospital is opened, the ceiling will cave in a few places and another couple of hundred million will be tendered off to another crony to fix it.
While this plundering continues, PM Najib Razak will call on the rakyat to further tighten their belts till they cannot breathe so they can save Malaysia from bankruptcy.
Pputeh: Just wonder who the directors of the contractor, Konsort Prohawk Sdn Bhd, are? Must be having strings at the top or are the top fellows themselves. What can we as Malaysians say or do when the stupid 47 percent keep on voting for these morons?
RKR: Has anyone heard of Konsortium Prohawk Sdn Bhd? Me neither. Why is it that multi-million ringgit by government projects are always handled by some unknown company? What experience do these companies have?
This month many taxpayers will be cursing the government once again when filing their returns.
Single Malt: The construction activities of this hospital will likely be 'sub-conned' to the MCA Ali Baba contractors. The MCA Chinese are happy and Umno Baru members are walking happily to the bank. It's a win-win for both of them.
You think this group of people are hoping for a government change? The change will happen only when the government goes bust.
Ketuanan Rakyat : Let us get back to a real open tender system for all projects involving public money to prevent cost overruns that sometimes almost double the original amount. Siphoning off of public money must come to an end urgently.
Enough of skimming by Umnoputras for the past several decades starting from former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad. More than half a century of rule by Umnoputras must be ended at the next GE.
Pemerhati: Since Najib and Umno have dictatorial powers they can do anything they like to anyone (e.g. Anwar Ibrahim, Teoh Beng Hock, A Kugan, Altantuya Shaariibuu, Aminulrasyid Amzah) and steal billions of the people’s money through extremely overpriced contracts.
They differentiate themselves from dictators like Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin and Bashir Assad by giving their criminal activities an aura of respectability by using their lackey enforcement agencies and the judiciary to do their dirty work.
They are thus able to go around and shake the hands of other respected leaders, but Mahathir had to pay a few million dollars to a middleman to arrange a meeting with US president George W Bush.
When the Ampang LRT extension project was awarded to George Kent in 2012, even though it had failed the technical criteria and tendered a higher price than the other better bidders, it clearly showed that an open tender exercise was no different from a ‘direct tender’.
BN will continue to steal as long as it remains in power through fraudulent elections.
