A DAP MP has demanded that both Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim work together to solve the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) quandary.

Gobind Singh Deo said although it was a raid by free-agent Selangor Islamic Department (Jais), which carried away 321 copies of the Bible in the Malay and Iban languages from BSM on Jan 2, there was enough public interest to require a firm executive decision.

Gobind said the AG's Chambers could surely decide whether to prosecute or not under the provisions of Article 145 of the federal constitution.

"As a Member of Parliament, I urge the attorney-general to explain why there is a delay in this case.

"Why has the attorney-general kept silent despite the open criticisms and calls for the return of the Bibles seized?" he asked in a press statement.

Meanwhile, Khalid had last week suggested that BSM write letters on its own to the attorney-general to ask for the return of the Bibles and this irked DAP MP Ong Kian Meng.

Ong urged Khalid to grow a backbone and not neglect his elected duty to look after the state's minorities.

Gobind shared the same view.

"The menteri besar will inspire confidence if he takes a proactive approach in the matter, rather than appearing to want to push it upon the attorney-general alone for resolution.

"The menteri besar cannot and should not run away from the fact that the issue concerns the state as well, since it is Jais that conducted the raid," Gobind added.
