The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a former director of a federal government department here yesterday with his wife and another officer from the same department, for allegedly using his position to get reward and making a false declaration.     

According to sources, based on investigation on the trio, a contractor, in his 40s, was detained today to help in investigation on the case, for allegedly submitting documents containing false details to the government.     

"The former director and his wife were detained at the MACC office yesterday when they turned up to help in investigation on the case of seeking and receiving bribe from a contractor on the supply of goods to the department in 2011.     

"Another officer from the department was also detained on the same day, believed to be also involved in the case, for supporting the document containing the false details as true," he told Bernama in Kuantan, today.     

The four individuals were released today on bail after their statements were taken.     

Meanwhile, state MACC chairman Moh Samsudin Yusof confirmed the arrests, when contacted.     

"This goes to show that MACC is always serious in carrying out investigations on corrupted practices regardless of the status, position and post of the individuals involved.     

He, however, declined to comment further on the case because it was still being investigated.
