Convert father uncouth to assume law on his side
YOURSAY ‘Obviously Izwan is an opportunist, converting for his self-serving purpose.’
'Convert ex-husband snatched my son'
Yoong John Yen: This is a great travesty of justice. My heart goes out to S Deepa whose heart must be aching.
Izwan Abdullah must be caught and treated like a criminal no matter what the syariah courts have to say about the conversion. This is a clear-cut case of abduction and taking a person against his/her will.
The courts must uphold the rule of law and the police must use all their resources at their disposal to catch this man, lest their image take further dents in the eyes of the public.
To the authorities, if you want a chance to prove your impartiality, now is the time. Up to the challenge?
Ferdtan: We have a criminal in our midst and we hope the police will react fast to get the boy back to his mother.
Police, we are watching to see that you are creditable enough not take sides in this custody case which had already been conclusively decided by the court.
If there is no action by the police within the next 24 hours, then the reputation of the police will once again be further damaged.
If Izwan, a recent convert formerly known as N Viran, can be so contemptuously in defiance of the court’s order granting custody of the children to the mother, then we know he would not be a good Muslim.
A good Muslim obeys the law. Obviously Izwan is an opportunist, converting for his self-serving purpose. Islam, the religion he adopted, will suffer bad image due to his criminal act.
Anonymous #19098644: He can be charged with kidnapping and contempt of court for his actions.
Criminal charges of aggravated assault and battery against his wife as well as trespass can also be filed.
This kind of uncivilised, uncouth, uncultured convert is an embarrassment to the good name of Islam and all Muslims.
Hang Tuah PJ: I don’t suppose Viran or the Muslim NGO involved will be reading these comments in Malaysiakini . So it will be of no use for me to blast away at these guys.
What I can do is to state my opinion here so that my brothers and sisters can take note of it. I am also a convert, from Hindu to Islam, and a practising one.
Islam does not condone injustice. What Viran has done - as well as the Muslim NGO if they had been involved in this - is not Islamic at all.
One commentator said, take away the conversion part, what Viran had done is due to the love for his children. My contention is that if he really loved his children, why did he abandon his family for two years?
I believe he is being misled by this Muslim NGO. The syariah courts here are a sham as they do not provide justice to non-Muslims whereas the Prophet preached justice for all.
Deepa should do what S Shamala did. The moment she gets back her children, take them and leave this country.
Oriole: So Islam is manipulated by nasty vicious criminals seeking to teach their wives a lesson, even if it means inflicting pain and fear on their children.
Who knows what brutality this fellow has already inflicted on this little boy. Where are the police? Who was in that Pajero?
This is a clear case of abduction with the aid of accomplices. Arrest the man and return the child to his mother.
Multi Racial: It is obvious Izwan does not respect the law and the court. I will wait to see what the authority will do about this or it will confirm there is double standard in this country.
Anonymous_3f4b: Why is most matrimonial and family problems arose from one party conversion to Islam?
What is it about the religion that family squabbles and dissatisfaction reigns the minute one converts and quarrel ensues to the detriment of the children of the marriage?
This sort of situation do not speak well for Islam and Muslims in general. The impression which they gave to the outside world is that Islam is an intolerable religion and all Muslims are fanatics and prone to unjust behaviour and violence.
The syariah courts must also be taken to task as religion cannot be forced. If the parties marry according to civil law whatever divorce or custody issues that arise must be decided by civil law.
The conversion of one party is his personal decision and must not affect the spouse or the children if they are minors.
The syariah courts and Muslims should do well to respect the rights of the non-converting parties for the sake of the good name of their religion.
Supercession: The poor woman's husband is a dreamboat, isn't he? He must be thinking that his new status as Muslim will insulate him from justice. He may well be proven right.
