The PKR presidency is set to be a contest between Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as neither have withdrawn their nominations at the deadline.

The window for nomination withdrawals closed yesterday.

The party's selection committee chairperson Johari Abdul said candidates who withdraw their nominations after this point will still have their names printed for voting, and the votes they receive will be counted as spoilt votes.

As of yesterday's deadline, Batu MP Tian Chua and Bukit Lanjan assemblyperson Elizabeth Wong have withdrawn from contesting the deputy president and vice president posts respectively.

PKR Puchong division chief Murali Balakrishnan has also pulled out from the deputy president contest.

That leaves four candidates for the deputy president contest and 15 for the vice president's.

Anwar's candidacy is largely believed to be due to pressure from Azmin who earlier wanted to run for the top post against Wan Azizah.

Three camps bid for posts

It is unclear if Wan Azizah has a preferred candidate for the deputy presidency, but it is understood she is not close to current deputy president Azmin Ali ( below ).

The battle for the vice president, Youth chief and Wanita chief posts looks poised to be a fight among camps aligned to the three deputy president candidates Azmin Ali, Saifuddin Nasution, and Khalid Ibrahim.

For the vice presidency, the incumbents Fuziah Salleh, Tian Chua, and  Nurul Izzah Anwar are all believed to be aligned to Saifuddin, while Mansor Othman is believed to be aligned to Azmin.

For the newcomers, Rafizi Ramli, who is contesting after a steady rise in the party since 2010, is aligned to Saifuddin as well.

Mustafa Kamil Ayub meanwhile has been campaigning for Khalid over the past few years.

Former Kajang assemblyperson Lee Chin Cheh is believed to be aligned to Azmin.

In the Youth chief battle Amiruddin Shari is a close ally of Azmin's, while Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad is aligned to Saifuddin.

Nazree Yunus is believed to be aligned to Khalid.

The Wanita chief contest will see Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is close to Azmin go head to head with Selangor executive councillor Rodziah Ismail, who is aligned to Khalid.
