Malaysia starts probing confused initial response

Anonymous_3faa: Really, an investigation underway? Whatever, based on all previous RCIs (royal commission of inquiries) and ‘internal’ investigations, the end result will always terminate with what else but NFA (no further action)?

 

And the music will play on - fat salaries collected, automatic promotions, and maybe more stars to their medallion collection.

 

If the government is really serious to investigate this debacle, just trace back to when Dr Mahathir Mohamad first took office five decades ago.

 

That was when the rot started and glaringly manifested now. But will things changed now? Nay, semua biasa lah.

 

Magnus: It was reported that MH370 lost communications with ATC at 1.21am and failed to send its half-hourly ACARS transmission at circa 1.30am. So Subang ATC knew from 1.30am on that something was wrong with the plane.

 

They or Vietnamese ATC then contacted the MAS plane 30-minute ahead of MH370 and asked its pilot to contact MH370. That MAS pilot said he did but that he did not understand the mumbles he was hearing back from the MH370 cockpit.

 

That communication must have been relayed to ATC. It says here ATC informed military radar at 2am that MH370 was missing.

 

We know there ought to have been many radar contacts made with the plane (assumed as a commercial aircraft/UFO) as it flew across the entire stretch of north Malaysia with the last radar contact said to be at 2.15am west of Penang heading to the Andaman Sea.

 

So why did the radar people not put two and two together and make the obvious deduction the UFO was MH370 and go and check it out?

 

Sali Tambap: Those in the Malaysian government service, especially in the professional and management categories, usually cringed to see how the most dungu and junior officers would overtake some brilliant colleagues, became head of departments and might eventually be the director-general of a ministry.

 

Most agreed that they were there because they had the right colour of their skin, spoke the right language and observe the right religion, even if they did not practice it but in name only. That is how the government service looks like in Malaysia.

 

Are they efficient or truly professional? They can never be bar a few genuine materials. One cannot put up a duck and expect it to become a swan. And it is a vicious cycle.

 

The group of dungus would decide among themselves who would be the next dungu to climb the ladder to the pinnacle of the government service. The practice is perpetuated because to put someone on merit means for the dungus to become extinct, and they cannot afford that.

 

Abasir: Like all other probes and inquiries (A Kugan, Ahmad Fairuz’s judicial fixing-Lingam, Teoh Beng Hock) conducted by the regime, this 'probe' is pure hogwash and will result in nothing.

 

They will spend the money, setting up a commission, organise a secretariat, get a budget and spend it and then declare an open verdict or even call it an act of god.

 

Remember Hishammuddin's famous response when a reporter asked him if they would do anything different if they had a chance all over again? "Nothing".

 

As I said before, ketuanan Melayu rules forbid taking accountability. As a corrupt Umno MB still walking around free has always said: Semuanya OK.

 

We have a PM who has much to answer for in the killing of Altantuya Shaariibuu, an IGP who has not answered for the death of Kugan in police custody, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers not called to account for the death of Teoh Beng Hock, a former PM who admittedly was in the country even as civilians were killed by police in Memali ... and now we have dysfunctional structures in the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and the Air Force whose omission/commission has contributed to the death of 239 persons.

 

There is clearly a troubling pattern here - that of a self-serving regime that places little value on human life and even less on the concept of accountability. No one as usual will be held accountable because doing so runs contrary to the rules of ketuanan Melayu.

 

Fair Play: Abasir, it just occurred to me. In the aftermath of Flight MH370, the right-thinking world community would now pay closer attention here, in particular the comments of the right-thinking Malaysians and the depth of their frustrations.

 

No question about it - the extent of the 'supremacy' of the ketuanan is now stripped naked for all to see. There is still hope for real change, I suppose.

 

Homesick: Let's face it. It's the incompetence that led to confusion.

 

Anonymous_1396273388: The sad fact is Malaysia is full of incompetent people in jobs that they are not qualified for, but are there for reasons of race and maybe religion.

 

The MH370 incident is tragic and exposes the flaws of these incompetents. The time for change is nigh and here. Meritocracy must come to the fore. For the sake of Malaysia.

 

Louis: The problem is no one is held accountable for any fiasco. Simple logic is dead as far as this incident is concerned.

 

When an unidentified object is flying over our air space, the first thing is to ask pilot to identify himself, failing which a fighter should be scrambled to intercept it.

 

We cannot assume the unidentified plane is friendly. Would you keep quiet if you sense someone walking in your house compound, even though you know he might be from your neighbourhood?

 

Peacemaker: Why start a probe 32 days after the aircraft disappears? It’s too late. We have so many "management schools in Malaysia, what do they teach.

 

Forty years ago when I went to university, we already learned about managing crises and managing an effective and efficient team.

 

I can’t believe that MAS is so backward. It needs a thorough revamps or a total re-build from the ground up.

 

Swipenter: These guys have blood on their hands. So they knew that MH370 did turn back but couldn't care less why because they want to protect their own rice bowl and turf and is too lazy to do the right thing.

 

This tragedy could had been avoided if both sides did their jobs as expected. So it is true in Bolehland that the right hand does not know and couldn't care less what the left hand is doing and vice versa.

 

Bolehland must has been on auto pilot mode for quite sometime. These little Napoleons are dividing Bolehland into their own little fiefdoms.

 

You don't bother me, I don't bother you but we must stick together when something drastic happens in order to protect the status quo.

 

Dng: As a retired military officer, I fully agree that this is a case of unprecedented incompetence on the part of those on duty as well as their top bosses. Heads must roll after the probe.
